JULY’S JAPAN CRATE

My fascination with subscription boxes started well over a year ago, when fellow blogger babe (and long-time friend), Cobwebs & Pearls, and I discovered that you could get yummy treats delivered to our doors. With credit cards in hand, we entered the wildly addictive world of subscription boxes. We’ve since ditched our first subscription, found some favourites that we subscribe to faithfully, and are having fun trying out even more new goodies.

My latest discovery, Japan Crate, is a delightful red box made to “share the fun and unique experience of Japanese culture through candy”, and it definitely delivered! In my crate was: A Maruta Mini Bottle, SakuSaku Panda Anniversary Chocolate Torte Cookies, Morokashi Wa Taro Doubanjiang Flavor, Takaoka Choco Flakes, Yaokin Cocobis Biscuits, Animal Kid Biscuits, Yokai Watch Jelly Drink DIY, Milk Flavored Chocolate, Paicro Sugar & Butter Flavour, and Sumiyaki Coffee Candy. With the exception of a few items, everything was yummy and super cute!

Although I would love to renew my subscription, the cost of shipping was over half the cost of the box, making the entire thing less appealing (I would rather put that $15 shipping charge towards a larger subscription box that includes shipping). But that didn’t stop me from enjoying July’s goodies. To see the full reveal of all this month’s Japanese snacks, be sure to watch my unboxing video below!

IPSY’S JUNE GLAM BAG

“Misfits. Rulebreakers. Bad ass babes. The riot starts this June. We’re hitting the streets with serious sizzle and signature looks. Coloring outside the lines is encouraged.Sitting on the side of the lines is not.”

Formula X Nail Polish in Wingwoman
I was so excited to see another polish by Formula X in my bag! This was the third time receiving one of their pretty shades, and although I would usually be a bit disappointed in receiving duplicate products from Ipsy, all three have been different colours. This little bottle goes a long way, and the high quality of the polish means you can expect a chip-free manicure for days.

Seraphine Botanicals Happy Hibiscus Blush
I love when my makeup products have dual uses, so I was thrilled to see this cute blush compact also included a mirror! At first, I was worried that the colour would be a bit too dark for me, but it has a sheer quality to it that allows you to layer until you find your desired shade.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fireball
Finally! Ipsy hooked me up with a bright and fun colour for the summer! This peachy-gold shimmering eyeshadow is absolutely gorgeous, goes on super smooth, and (as a fun bonus) transitions to a pink hue depending on the light. This was the first time every trying an Urban Decay product, even though this brand has been around for years, and it definitely won’t be the last!

Royal & Langnickel MODA Crease/Smudge Brush
If you’ve been following my Ipsy reveiws for a while now, you’ll now how much I love getting brushes. This beautiful brush is a brand new product from Royal & Langnickel and I was instantly drawn to its bold, bright colour. It also makes my morning makeup routine a breeze – one side blends my shadow perfectly, and with a quick flip, the other side fills in my creases.

Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray
I left this review until the very end because I was very disappointed when I pulled this product out of my Ipsy bag. Many months ago, I received a beach spray product by another company, and it did nothing for my hair – my hair is too thin and too short to get good results. So, I rated it poorly in my Ipsy profile thinking I would never receive this product again (isn’t that what their rating function is for??). I was wrong. I should have prefaced this review by saying that I LOVE Marc Anthony products. I have both received them in previous Ipsy bags and bought them on my own. But once again, this particular product just wasn’t for me.

Peek Nom Nom Natural Plumping Balm in Miracle
I was skeptical at first, but this little container of lip balm packs a powerful tingle! Infused with chili pepper and ginger, my lips started warming up within minutes, and with that warmth came a nice, healthy glow – think of how your cheeks look when they’re flushed after working out. Did my lips plump up a-la Kylie Jenner? No. But this balm sure left them looking kissable.

Pacifica Shadow Trio in Skinny Dip/Crush/Lovely
Enriched with coconut, this shadow goes on with a shimmery, and velvety finish that lasts beautifully when paired with my favourite primer. This trio has become my go-to combo for work, as its neutral tones are perfect for a natural and professional look. Although I was hoping to get some brighter, summer colours in my Ipsy bag, it’s great to have a shadow handy that I can add to my morning routine and know that I will leave the house looking fabulous.

Bellapierre Gel Lip Liner in Nude
To be honest, I rarely use lip liner. And when I do, it’s always the drier, pencil style that pulls and tugs on my lips as I apply it. I was excited to  try a gel style liner and see if I preferred they way it felt over liners I’ve used in the past. The verdict: I did! I loved the way this liner glided effortlessly over my lips.

Smashbox X-Rated Mascara
I have received mascaras in my previous Ipsy bags, including Smashbox’s Full Exposure Mascara, and have always been underwhelmed. This one was no different. Because I already have long lashes, I often don’t notice a dramatic difference that many mascaras promise. But I will say that I always enjoy the high quality of Smashbox’s products and will definitely keep this mascara handy.

Epice Hydrating Face Mask
Rich in antioxidants and aloe, this mask left my skin feeling super soft and hydrated, just as the name suggests. I threw it on while I painted my toes, and enjoyed the soft scent of apples radiating from my face. This was the perfect pick-me-up for my skin during these record breaking warm spring days.
