My list of favourite foods is a long one, but popcorn is definitely at the top. Buttered, coated in caramel, or seasoned with my favourite chip flavour, I don’t discriminate against these tasty kernels. So, imagine my delight when I discovered that today was National Popcorn Day!

In my journey to live a healthier life, I have learned to make my own fancy flavours at home instead of reaching for the processed stuff. One of my go-to recipes comes from a fabulous site called kitchn, and is super easy to make. I will definitely be making a bowl when I get home tonight, and join in on the nation wide celebration. Here’s how you can enjoy my favourite flavour, too:

Chili Cheese Popcorn
Melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter in a sauce pan. In a separate bowl, mix together 1/2 cup nutritional yeast*, 1 teaspoon chili powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt (I love my pink Himalayan salt). Pour mixture over popcorn and enjoy.

*If you are thinking “What the hell is nutritional yeast?” you’re not alone. When I first started trying out vegan recipes, it was in EVERYTHING. I was weary to try it out, but now I love it. It’s a great dairy-free alternative to cheese powder. And if you want this recipe to be completely vegan friendly, sub the butter for margarine or your choice of dairy-free butter product.

It’s no secret that I love fall, and this is largely due to the traditions that come along with it. With another wonderful Thanksgiving in the books, I’ve enjoyed reflecting on what other family traditions have happened this season.

Every fall, Italian families get together to make sugo (or sauce) for the coming year. It’s an all-day event that starts with chopping bushels of tomatoes, garlic, and onions, bright and early in the morning, followed by careful love and attention of the sauce as it simmers all day. Once the first batch is complete, we’re rewarded with the most delicious lunch of pasta, ricotta cheese, and bread (all homemade), and of course, our first taste of this year’s sugo. The weather always ends up being just a bit chilly, which is perfect for huddling around the warm vats of sauce. And we always leave feeling proud of the sauce stock we’ve amounted for the coming year.

Another month has come to an end, but with much excitement. Why, you ask? IT’S OFFICIALLY FALL! This is by far my favourite time of the year. As much as I enjoyed the summer, I’m ready for the cooler weather and all the wonderful things it brings – the leaves changing colours, fall fairs, and Halloween.

This month brought with it the return of my favourite Starbucks drink, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, some much needed time for some apartment décor projects, and one last summer inspired style shoot. Here’s to spooky October and another memorable month for all of you lovely Peaches, too!
