SEPTEMBER: A LOOK BACK

Another month has come to an end, but with much excitement. Why, you ask? IT’S OFFICIALLY FALL! This is by far my favourite time of the year. As much as I enjoyed the summer, I’m ready for the cooler weather and all the wonderful things it brings – the leaves changing colours, fall fairs, and Halloween.

This month brought with it the return of my favourite Starbucks drink, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, some much needed time for some apartment décor projects, and one last summer inspired style shoot. Here’s to spooky October and another memorable month for all of you lovely Peaches, too!

SUBSCRIPTION SUNDAY: YUME TWINS VOL. 3

Don’t adjust your computer screens! Yes, I am posting a Subscription Sunday on a Monday but hey – that’s just how things go around here. I’m a scheduling rebel!

Last month I shared a new subscription box called Tokyo Treat that was filled with tasty snacks and surprises from Japan. To my delight, I soon discovered that Tokyo Treat had a kawaii cousin named Yume Twins; a pretty purple box filled with Japanese toys and goodies. I should preface this excitement by sharing that I have always had a love for cutesy and girly things. Fast forward to this year when I started watching fellow YouTubers, Simon & Martina, and my love of kawaii things, grew to a new level. After my brother brought back some capsule toys from Japan in the spring, I knew I had to find a way to get my hands on more, and Yume Twins was the perfect find.

“Yume kawaii is a new kawaii movement that is a mixture of cuteness and fairy tales with a touch of darkness! Yume itself means ‘dream’, so not only does Yume Kawaii center around cute styles, but it also has a magical dreamy feel to it. This trend is now such a significant part of Japanese culture and focuses on the concept of all cute dreamy things that make the heart flutter.”

The theme for my first Yume Twins box was “Loveable Animals” and everything inside was themed with an adorable animal character, from Pompompurin to Neko Astume kitties. I was especially thrilled to get not one, but two Gudetema themed items – my favourite Sanrio character (sorry, Hello Kitty). Box #1 and I am already so pleased with this subscription. I can’t wait to see what next month brings!

FROM THE KITCHEN: WHAT I ATE IN A WEEK, THE VEGAN EDITION

It’s been a while since I shared a new recipe or cooking related post, but it’s because I’ve been a busy bee in the kitchen, trying new and delicious things. One big change in my life has been my recent shift into a vegetarian diet, which was prefaced by tons of research and food testing. But wait! Before you close this post thinking I’m about to preach to you about why you should eat vegetarian, you can relax. This is simply a fun little entry to let you know what’s been going on in my life, and if you read until the very end, there’s even a yummy cookie recipe waiting for you!

I haven’t eaten red meat in over a year now, and I decided it was time to make the jump and cut out chicken and fish, too. My love of animals, plus my long-time dislike of most meat products (my mom’s meatloaf never stood a chance) made this an easy choice. So to jumpstart this change, I challenged myself and my fella to go vegan for a week. It was a great way to prep my pantry for this healthy change, and get me to think outside of the box when it came to meal prep. I even ventured into the city to check out a local vegan food festival and tried THE most delicious vegan Big Mac – don’t ask me how they make it, but it was amazing! It has been a great change thus far, and I thought I’d share a glimpse into what I ate for my vegan challenge. Hopefully this video whets your appetite and inspires you to try something new!

As promised, click here for my favourite recipe for vegan chocolate chip cookies from Oh She Glows. I’ve made them a handful of times now and they are delicious! Let me know in the comments if you end up making them, and if you love them, too!
