MY STYLE: SPRING FAVOURITES

Happy first week of spring, everyone! With last week’s dumping of snow, I thought we would never get here. But alas, the sun is staying out a few hours longer, the birds are chirping, and Easter is just around the corner. To get in the mood for the season, I thought I would share a few of my favourite spring fashion pieces.

Flats: Flats are my fashion best friend. And although I wear them year round, I’m always excited when spring rolls around because I can finally wear them without hearing people ask “Aren’t your feet cold?” It’s a beautiful thing! Spring is also when I typically refresh my collection with a few new pairs. To me, spring cleaning is all about making room for pretty new things in your closest, am I right?

Cheerful Colours: With the amount of black I own, you might think this is an odd choice. But I do love a brightly coloured piece, and the warm spring weather always seems like the perfect time to add some cheer to your wardrobe. My go-to spring colours are usually pinks, peaches and oranges, with the odd splash of teal in the mix. What are yours?

The Shades: With the days getting longer and the sun getting brighter, you can’t forget to protect your pretty peepers. I tend to gravitate towards cat-eye or vintage inspired frames, as they add a little fun and whimsy to your look. And when you’ve been brunching too hard on a sunny Sunday morning with your gal pals, throw on a pair and nobody will be the wiser. Insta-style!

GOLDEN GLOBE STYLE: METALLIC SPARKLE

Roll out the red carpet because awards season has arrived! There is something I love about the Golden Globes that I don’t feel for the Oscars. The Globes are an evening of glamour, but with less of the pomp and fluff, more fun, (seemingly) more enjoyment, and people usually say hilarious stuff as the champagne flows. It’s my kinda night!

Like the majority of viewers, I also love watching for the fashion. I particularly enjoy seeing what trends emerge. This year, Emma Stone took the trend of metallic sequins and made it truly sparkle. Not only did her look appear effortless, but I absolutely loved the whimsical touch of the sequin stars that cascaded down her gown – they shimmered with every step. So I’ve recreated the look with pieces that are fun, playful, and perfect for a night on the town with your ladies, or a hot date.

Did Emma Stone’s look make it to your list of favourites? Let me know in the comments!

MY STYLE: BATTER UP!

In my last post I talked about the importance of taking care of yourself and not losing sight of things that bring you joy. And that’s exactly what my shoot with Lady Luck Pinups was all about: a moment to focus on myself, feel beautiful, sassy, and have an absolutely amazing afternoon with an equally amazing person.

I first stumbled upon Lady Luck Pinups via a mutual friend on Instagram, and after months of liking one another’s pictures, we finally got the chance to meet at the Curvy Expo earlier this year. Meeting Jennifer was like running into a long lost friend – there were hugs and smiles and I felt instantly comfortable around her. And the photo shoot was no different! As soon as I walked through the studio door, Deanna, the makeup and hair stylist, made me feel like the babeliest babe around. And that feeling continued as I got behind the lens and Jennifer gave me a crash course on how to pose like a pinup. I knew, without a doubt, that this team had my back and was there to make my experience the best it could be, and they did just that…and more!

And can we talk about this adorable Rockford Peaches dress I found online? I have wanted one of these dresses for ages, but never took the plunge (my obsession with this movie runs deep, if you couldn’t tell by my blog handle). In keeping with the theme of doing what brings me joy, I bought this baby as soon as I booked my photo shoot and excitedly messaged Jennifer to let her know I wanted to do an A League Of Their Own inspired shoot. She was totally on board and made my idea come to life! She even drove to multiple grocery stores to find the perfectly round peaches, just for me. How could you not love this woman?! I can’t wait to get back behind her lens again soon!
