MY STYLE: SUMMER SKIRTS

I am a skirt lover – short, long, flowy, or twirly, I don’t discriminate! So when the end of summer rolls around, I go on the hunt. I know what you’re thinking: “Why would you buy skirts once summer was over?” One word: CLEARANCE! Stores are making room for their fall pieces, which means the clearance racks are piling up with summer clothing.

On my recent trip to Buffalo for a girl’s weekend, I knew where my first stop would be: Lane Bryant, one of my favourite American plus size stores that hasn’t yet made its way to Canada (they ship to Canada if you shop online, but I’m a try-things-on kinda gal). I headed straight for the clearance section in the back of the store, and as I had hoped, there were skirts galore! I picked up two fabulous skirts, one of them being this super fun Wonder Woman-esque piece. Inspired by Margot Meanie’s recent post about elevating a basic look with accessories, I paired this skirt with fun accessories for a day look, and something a bit more dramatic for an evening look. Which look is your favourite?

SUBSCRIPTION SUNDAY: TOKYOTREAT VOL. 8

As my subscription obsession has grown significantly since starting this blog, I’ve decided to dedicate Sundays to sharing my various boxes and bags of goodies, while keeping the other days set aside for whatever else sparks my interest. Enter: Subscription Sundays (I know, I know…not the most inventive of names, but it does the trick)!

I have become somewhat of a snack box junkie. These parcels are a fun way to experience new cultures and try things you may never have tried unless you were in that country. A friend of mine saw that I had started to explore the world of online snacks, and recommended a new subscription called TokyoTreat. Similar to Japan Crate which I received for the first time last month, TokyoTreat delivers premium Japanese snacks and candies right to your door. The theme for this month’s box  was Tropical Fruits, and the box came filled with 11 fun and fruity snacks. I went with the regular sized box, but you can also choose from a smaller and larger option, depending on your budget. In my box was: Torotto, Mugipon Puffs, Watermelon Gummies, Calbee Wasabi Potato Chips (SO GOOD!!), Pretz, Dodotto Tsubupyon DIY Kit, 7 Stick, Pachi Pachi Panic, Monaka, Watermelon Chewing Gum, and Chocbi. Not only was everything yummy, but I ended up saving money by switching to this new subscription. Unlike Japan Crate, Tokyo Treat offers free shipping worldwide and took the same amount of time to arrive – cue the happy dancing!

If you want to sign up for your own TokyoTreat box, visit www.tokyotreat.com. Not sure if this subscription is for you? Stay tuned to see what I get next month!

The Balm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony in Matt Kumar
I was thrilled to see another product by The Balm Cosmetics in my bag. I have previously received their lip colour (more here) and absolutely love it! My admiration for this product is no different – it’s a smooth and long wearing eye shadow that, although is a bit too dark for the eye looks I usually apply, makes a killer shade of blush.

Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer
Although this serum leaves my skin feeling smooth and fresh, there wasn’t enough in this sample to use it long enough to notice any major changes in my skin tone. But I will say that my foundation went on much smoother, and it was easier to blend over problem areas (where I have healing blemishes). I would definitely be interested in using this for longer to see the lasting effects.

Avene Thermal Spring Water
With temperatures soaring this month, seeing this thermal spray in my bag was a welcomed refreshment! This spray is made for sensitive skin which means no agitating, strong scents – just refreshing, pure thermal water. This product did wonders for my very thirsty, sunburnt skin.

BeFine Food Skin Care
I’ll be honest with you – I am not a huge fan of night creams even though I know they are great for your skin. Why? A lot of night creams tend to be thick and I don’t like the feeling of something heavy sitting on my face. But this cream was different. It absorbed nicely into my skin and didn’t leave behind a greasy film afterwards.

Vasanti Cosmetics Professional Eyeshadow Brush
What can I say? I love my make up brushes! This brush was a welcome addition to my ever-growing brush collection I have received from Ipsy. The bristles are super soft and my eyeshadow glides on with ease. I especially love the rounded tip – creating pretty eye looks with this brush is a cinch!
